The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the possession, circulation, and illegal production of counterfeit Euro currency.

The breakthrough followed a successful township patrol operation by police operatives around the Labo–Wesley area of Ibadan.

The Initial Arrest and Interception

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the operation took place on September 1, 2026.

Police officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three men. A thorough search of the individuals led to the recovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes carrying a total face value of €8,900.

The four suspects apprehended during the initial stop were identified as Tijani Saheed, Oni Oladapo, Adebayo Saheed, and Hammed Karemu.

Crackdown on the Counterfeit Factory

During interrogations, the suspects are said to have confessed to the crime and led investigators to the location where the counterfeit currency was purchased.

A subsequent raid of the venue led to the recovery of manufacturing equipment and tools used to print the fake currency notes. The alleged producer of the counterfeit money was arrested at the scene, along with two additional accomplices, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to six.

Police Commitment and Next Steps

The Oyo State Command confirmed that all six suspects are currently in custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations, and will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
