EPL WRAP: Iwobi’s Fulham Get First Win as Chelsea and Liverpool Secure Away Wins
Chelsea is gradually clawing its way into contention in the English Premier League after securing back-to-back wins to rise into the top four on the table.
A brace from Pedro Neto, a clean sheet, and an away win were the highlights of Saturday’s fixture against Everton. It was also a feisty game of caution, with 4 yellow cards for Chelsea and 3 for Everton.
The defeat ends the Toffees’ unbeaten start to the domestic season.
Liverpool also showed consistency, securing a hard-fought away win against Brentford. The Bees initially took the lead in the 44th minute via a Keane Lewis-Potter header. However, Liverpool replied with a commanding second-half performance to take all three points. It turned out to be a tortuous night for the home side, who were heavily undone by disciplinary issues, ending the match with 9 men after red cards were issued to Yehor Yarmoliuk and Vitaly Janelt.
Manchester City remain league leaders after a thrilling 3-2 victory against Ipswich Town. Phil Foden opened the scoring for the Cityzens on his return to the squad, while Erling Haaland netted a brace to ensure Enzo Maresca becomes the first manager in Premier League history to win his opening seven matches.
In other fixtures, Aston Villa carried their fine midweek European momentum back into domestic action with a 1-0 away victory against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park courtesy of a Johan Manzambi header.
Meanwhile, Fulham finally got their first win of the season with a vital victory over Hull City to ease the mounting pressure on Coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
