Manchester United’s Lisandro Martínez Issues Public Apology After Showdown Talks with Michael Carrick

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has released an official statement following a meeting with manager Michael Carrick and the club’s leadership team.

The Argentine centre-back held talks on Thursday night to clear the air following an undisclosed post-match incident. Tensions had flared after United’s recent 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, leading to a raw and unfiltered interview that the defender granted.

In a statement released Thursday night, Martínez expressed regret over his recent actions, attributing his behavior to the intense emotion and passion he holds for the club.

“Today I met with the club’s leadership and the manager,” Martínez said. “It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after the game.”

The World Cup winner admitted that his emotions got the better of him in the wake of United’s latest setback.

“Everyone knows that I am a passionate person and that I live football with great intensity,” he continued. “The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise.”

Nicknamed “The Butcher” by fans for his aggressive playing style, Martínez acknowledged that internal harmony is paramount if Manchester United is to turn their season around under Carrick.

“Our club is at its best when we are all united, and I recognise that my words in that moment did not help with that,” Martínez added. “I know that every single person at Manchester United is doing everything possible to achieve our shared ambition: bringing the success that this club and its supporters deserve.”

With a crucial Premier League fixture against Leeds United looming on Sunday, October 18, both the player and management appear eager to draw a line under the drama.
