46 Arrested in Benue Over Peter Obi Convoy Blockade

The Benue State Police Command has arrested 46 suspects and launched a full-scale investigation following the blockade and obstruction of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), during his visit to the state.

Speaking to journalists at the Command Headquarters, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, confirmed that security forces intervened strategically to defuse the tension and prevent potential bloodshed.

According to Commissioner Nwadiogbu, the timely intervention of law enforcement stabilized the situation, ensuring the safety of the political flagbearer and his entourage.

CP Nwadiogbu clarified that the actions taken by the police during the standoff were necessary operational decisions aimed at protecting public peace.

“Our primary objective was to ensure that the situation did not escalate into violence or loss of life,” Nwadiogbu stated. “We made a strategic call to manage the situation effectively, and I can confirm that key suspects responsible for the obstruction are already in our custody.”

The command emphasized that it remains committed to maintaining law and order, warning that any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the peace or infringe upon the freedom of movement of political figures will face the full wrath of the law.

The 46 suspects are currently being interrogated as investigations continue to uncover the motives behind the blockade.
