2027 SHOCKER: PDP Bypasses INEC Portal, Manually Submits Goodluck Jonathan’s Name for President!
The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn ahead of the 2027 general elections as the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) announced the submission of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its official presidential candidate.
The move comes amid an intense, ongoing leadership dispute for the control of Nigeria’s main opposition party.
Manual Submission Amid Digital Lockout
The Kabiru Turaki-led Interim NWC disclosed that it manually submitted Jonathan’s name alongside the party’s governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly candidates.
The faction stated the submission complies strictly with the Electoral Act 2026.
Speaking at a late-night press conference, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Ini Ememobong, confirmed that INEC acknowledged receipt of the hardcopy documents.
However, Ememobong revealed that the electoral umpire had allegedly denied the interim leadership access to the official electronic submission codes.
The Battle for Legitimacy
The faction insists that the Turaki-led leadership is the sole authentic organ of the PDP. The body was constituted by the Board of Trustees (BoT) and a requisitioned National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to the faction, this interim structure became necessary following a Supreme Court judgment that left the party without a legally recognized national leadership.
Faction Accuses INEC of Bias
The PDP interim leadership also alleged deep irregularities regarding the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the apex court’s judgment. They claimed that portions of the written document failed to reflect the actual ruling delivered in open court.
The faction strongly accused INEC of abandoning its neutrality, alleging that the commission has repeatedly ignored material facts and court orders that favour their side. They warned that if INEC publishes a final candidates’ list different from the names they submitted, it will confirm public fears of institutional bias and prove that the electoral umpire is backing external forces trying to weaken the opposition.
