Zamfara: Bungudu Local Government Chairman Regains Freedom 2 Months Abduction

The abducted Chairman of the Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi, has safely regained his freedom after spending nearly two months in captivity, family sources have confirmed.

Mr. Abdullahi was violently kidnapped on July 25, 2026, when heavily armed bandits launched a deadly assault on his private residence in Bungudu, whisking him away along with several neighbors.

The initial attack resulted in the immediate deaths of two police officers and a local vigilante operative who attempted to repel the invaders.

Additionally, the Council Chairman’s brother, who sustained severe gunshot wounds during the raid, tragically succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care at a hospital in Asad.

It is not clear whether it was a rescuer or negotiated release, as authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding his return.
