Xenophobia: Born in South Africa but Treated Unfairly, I Believe I Will Get Justice — Chidinma Adetshina
JOHANNESBURG — Former Miss Universe Nigeria and Miss South Africa contestant, Chidinma Adetshina, has vowed to fight for her legal status in South Africa following a high profile court adjournment.
The beauty queen spoke out after the South African Department of Home Affairs pushed forward with legal proceedings aimed at her deportation.
While the court session was underway, anti-immigrant protesters gathered outside the building, demanding her immediate removal from the country.
‘I Am Being Targeted’
Reading a prepared speech from her mobile phone outside the court, Adetshina expressed her frustration with the ongoing legal battle. “I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted, and there’s been an attempt to make me an example,” Adetshina stated.

Despite the intense public scrutiny and protests, she maintained that her response is driven by a desire for fairness rather than anger. She expressed confidence that the South African legal system will ultimately vindicate her.
“South Africa is governed by the rule of law, and we should not allow xenophobia and misinformation to determine how people are to be treated,” she added.
Commitment to Due Process
Adetshina thanked the South African judicial institutions for allowing her to present her case transparently. She reminded the public of her roots and her commitment to resolving the issue legally. “I want to remind everyone that I was born in South Africa,” Adetshina emphasized. “I have applied to the proper legal channels to have my status and citizenship determined. Throughout this ordeal, I have availed myself of all appropriate legal recourse, and I will continue to respect and abide by each process.”
