Chidimma’s Deportation: South African Court Declines Custody Request, Adjourns Till February 2027
A Cape Town Regional Court has adjourned the ruling on the case seeking to deport Miss South Africa finalist and Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, to February 2027.
The magistrate ruled that it cannot go ahead with the ruling due to a pending case before the Western Cape High Court, where Adetshina is seeking a review of her immigration application.
Prosecutors had demanded immediate detention of the beauty queen pending the High Court’s ruling. But this was rejected by the magistrate, who instead directed her to maintain the conditions earlier imposed by the court.
The conditions required her to maintain a verifiable address, but in the event it changes, her lawyers should immediately update immigration authorities.
In the meantime, Adetshina’s legal team and the Department of Home Affairs have been directed by the Magistrate to provide comprehensive updates on the status of the civil case before the Western Cape High Court, where Adetshina is seeking a review of the Home Affairs revocation of her legal status.
Both parties are also to inform the court on the matter regarding whether she should remain detained pending deportation or not.
