According to a trending video on social media, dozens of Guinean diaspora in New York gathered to demonstrate against President Doumbouya.
But it soon became chaotic when a section of the crowd aggressively surrounded, chased, and threw bottles at a van and vehicles believed to be transporting the President and his entourage.
The protesters in the video carried placards criticizing Doumbouya’s administration, alleging extrajudicial killings and dissolution of major opposition parties in Guinea.
Doumbouya seized power in a military coup on September 5, 2021, which ousted former President Alpha Condé.
He subsequently was announced winner of the presidential election held in December 2025 and was sworn into a seven-year term on January 17, 2026.
