U.S.-Nigeria Creative Economy: Burna Boy and Consul General Brandon Hudspeth Meet in Lagos
LAGOS, Nigeria — In a bid to strengthen international cultural ties, U.S. Consul General Brandon Hudspeth welcomed Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy.
The meeting centred on expanding economic and commercial collaboration between the American and Nigerian creative industries.
The diplomat and the music icon explored practical frameworks to translate the deep cultural affinity between the United States and Nigeria into sustainable financial ecosystems.
Discussions targeted key pillars of growth, including fostering direct commercial relationships among U.S. and Nigerian recording studios, record labels, and digital streaming platforms.

They also discussed the implementation of robust intellectual property (IP) frameworks, building upon the Consulate’s ongoing initiatives, such as its recent Lagos Music Industry Workshop, which focused on how stronger copyright enforcement can unlock foreign direct investment and maximize revenue for creators.
The partnership hopes to structure a roadmap for artist and industry talent exchanges, drive venture capital into Nigerian creative spaces, and connect international platforms with local stakeholders to streamline monetization.
The engagement highlights the expanding role of Nigeria’s creative economy on the global stage.
