Osun Gov’t Sues EFCC Over Account Freeze Ahead of Election
OSOGBO, NIGERIA — The Osun State Government has dragged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo.
The legal battle follows a “Post-No-Debit” restriction placed by the anti-graft agency on the state’s Statutory Allocation Account.
Governor Ademola Adeleke disclosed the lawsuit during a press conference, where he strongly condemned the account freeze.
He described the EFCC’s actions as a display of lawlessness and political intimidation. According to the Governor, the restriction is a deliberate attempt to paralyse critical government operations exactly 10 days before the crucial August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election.
Why the Osun Government is Suing EFCC
The state’s legal team, led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, contends that the EFCC completely overstepped its constitutional boundaries.
The Osun State Government is arguing the the anti-graft agency’s action is ultra vires, having been done without any valid court order.
The Governor The asserts that the EFCC delivered the freeze directive directly to First Bank without obtaining a valid mandate from a court of competent jurisdiction, a move they argue directly violates the rule of law.
