Gavi Pledges $500M+ to Boost Nigeria’s Childhood Immunization Over Next 5 Years

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) has committed over $500 million to reinforce Nigeria’s national immunization program over the next five years.

This major financial pledge aims to secure vital vaccination campaigns for millions of children across the country, keeping healthcare priorities on track despite a challenging environment of declining global donor assistance.

The partnership was officially announced during a high-level meeting between Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Gavi Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sania Nishtar.

In addition to the immediate immunization funding, the collaboration highlights the launch of a $1.2 billion African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator.

This ambitious initiative is specifically designed to transition the continent toward medical self-reliance by aggressively boosting local vaccine production capabilities.

President Tinubu welcomed the investment, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to overcoming public health challenges through strategic global alliances.
