MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — A Boko Haram fighter has voluntarily surrendered to the troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in Borno State.

The surrender took place at the Pulka area of Gwoza Local Government Area. Military officials state that the development is a direct result of ongoing, relentless military offensives designed to dismantle insurgent networks across the Northeast theater.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the insurgent had been operating within the rugged terrain of the Mandara Mountains axis. The notorious border region between Nigeria and Cameroon has long served as a stronghold and transit corridor for terrorist factions.

Upon surrendering to the frontline troops, the operative relinquished a significant cache of military-grade gear, which includes a One Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher, one active RPG bomb, and a mobile phone.

The Nigerian Military High Command confirmed that the individual is currently undergoing extensive profiling, debriefing, and preliminary investigations by intelligence officers in accordance with international humanitarian law and standard operational protocols.

In a press statement detailing the breakthrough, Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, emphasized that the insurgent’s decision to lay down arms highlights the shrinking operational freedom of the terrorist networks.

“This development further reflects the impact of sustained military pressure on terrorist networks and their diminishing freedom of action across the Theatre,” it read. The task-force command added: “It also underscores ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to degrade terrorist capabilities and encourage those still bearing arms to abandon terrorism and embrace peace.”

The Theatre Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining aggressive tactical pressure on all remaining insurgent enclaves, ensuring the complete restoration of long-term peace and socio-economic stability throughout the North East region.
