Nigerian Military Eliminates Boko Haram Terrorists in Borno State
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a deadly ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists and dismantled several makeshift staging camps along the volatile Buni Gari–Buratai axis in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The encounter occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, during a routine patrol. Troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade under Sector 2 ran into the insurgent trap but responded with decisive firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee the area in disarray.
Hidden Camps Smashed, Combat Enablers Recovered
Following the initial firefight, military reinforcements were swiftly deployed to clear the ambush site and comb the surrounding bushes.
During the exploitation phase, troops uncovered hidden temporary camps utilized by the insurgents as staging points for attacks.
The military forces dismantled the hideouts and recovered several weapons and logistics items, including rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs, one motorcycle and multiple bicycles, one ammunition magazine, and assorted rounds.
No Military Casualties Recorded
According to a statement issued by Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the theatre headquarters in Maiduguri, no Nigerian troops lost their lives in the engagement.
While some operational vehicles sustained damage during the heavy exchange of gunfire, the troops remained fully functional and successfully completed their clearance mission.
Military Urges Continued Vigilance
The military high command stated that the successful operation underscores the ongoing resolve of Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorists freedom of action and safeguard civilian communities across the northeastern region.
Captain Goni described the general security situation in the area as calm but unpredictable. He urged members of the public to stay vigilant and quickly report any suspicious individuals or unusual movements to security agencies to assist ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
