Tributes are pouring in from across Nigeria following the passing of elder statesman, prominent businessman, and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who died at the age of 90.

The political establishment has risen in unison to honor his memory, with former President Goodluck Jonathan, the leadership of the PDP, and the Northern Governors Forum leading the nationwide condolences.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing the late Tukur as a distinguished patriot, an accomplished businessman, and a deeply committed democrat.

Jonathan noted that as a respected chieftain and former leader of the PDP, Tukur played a pivotal role in the nation’s political landscape, dedicating much of his life to national unity and democratic consolidation.

The former president highlighted Tukur’s dual legacy as both a foremost administrator and an innovative entrepreneur, emphasizing that his wealth of experience would be sorely missed by the entire country.

In a prayer for the family and the people of Adamawa State, Jonathan asked Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his good deeds, and grant him eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus.

Meanwhile, both factions of the PDP have shared their tributes. The Interim National Working Committee of the party, led by Kabiru Turaki, released a statement reacting to the devastating loss of their former national chairman. Turaki revealed that Bamanga Tukur’s final wish for the party was for its leadership and members to unite, stay resilient, and always keep the PDP flag flying despite current political challenges.

Concurrently, the Wike-aligned PDP faction issued a statement calling Tukur’s death a major loss for the country. The statement, signed by National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed, described the former National Chairman’s passing as a monumental loss to the nation.

The faction lauded the elder statesman’s extensive contributions to Nigeria’s democratic, economic, and political advancement, remembering Tukur as an exemplary leader, seasoned administrator, accomplished entrepreneur, and fiercely loyal party stalwart.

The Northern Governors Forum has also expressed profound grief over Tukur’s passing. The Forum Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, released a statement describing the late elder statesman as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political and economic development.
