Uganda Declares No Active Ebola Cases Following Confirmed Infection in Nigeria

The Ugandan Ministry of Health has issued an urgent call for public calm and heightened vigilance, clarifying that Uganda has zero active cases of Ebola.

The official statement follows recent reports from Nigerian health authorities confirming that a Nigerian business woman tested positive for the virus in Abuja after transiting through Kampala.

According to the Ugandan Ministry of Health, the patient had travelled to the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for business before passing through Uganda in early October.

Infection Source Under Investigation

Ugandan health officials emphasized that the woman was completely asymptomatic during her transit through the country.

“Travel through Uganda does not establish that infection occurred here,” said Prof. Charles Olaro, the Ugandan Director General of Health Services. “The location of exposure remains under investigation.”

The ministry noted that it is currently awaiting a detailed travel itinerary and clinical history from the Government of Nigeria to better assist with ongoing epidemiological investigations and prospective contact tracing.

While reinforcing that Uganda is currently free of the virus, health authorities stated that strict public health controls are being scaled up. Limited provisions remain active exclusively for humanitarian and diplomatic movement, and screening measures at all primary points of entry will be significantly strengthened.

The Ugandan authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and maintain strict hygiene standards, including regular handwashing and sanitising.
