The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has officially cleared two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Yola, Adamawa State, after laboratory samples returned negative following two rounds of testing.

The initial alert was triggered in the early hours of Friday, October 30, 2026, when the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) identified two individuals displaying symptoms consistent with the virus. Public health teams immediately isolated both patients and initiated emergency containment protocols while collecting diagnostic samples.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 31, 2026, NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris confirmed that the state currently has zero laboratory-confirmed cases of Ebola. He commended the proactive response of the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his medical team, assuring the public that the national agency will continue providing technical support to strengthen local response operations.

“Currently, there is no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State,” Dr. Idris stated. “The index case previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria to date.”

Public Health Guidelines and Symptoms

Public health authorities are urging citizens to remain calm and actively avoid spreading unverified rumours or panic on social media.

The NCDC restated its public safety reminder that Ebola is a severe infectious disease requiring immediate clinical management.
It urged individuals to watch for the following symptoms, such as high fever and severe bodily weakness, intense headaches, muscle pain, vomiting and severe diarrhea.

The federal and state health authorities remain in a state of high alert, pledging transparent communication and a coordinated national response to ensure early detection and containment across Nigeria.
