Troops Rescue 33 Abducted Passengers in Zamfara State, Vow to Secure North West Highways

ZAMFARA, Nigeria — Joint security forces have successfully rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists along a major highway in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation took place after terrorists intercepted the commuters in the Magazu area on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

Swift Tactical Response

Spokesperson for the military’s Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.Col. Aliyu Danja, confirmed the rescue, stating that troops mobilized to the scene immediately after receiving credible intelligence about the ambush.

Personnel from the Joint Task Force North West (Operation FANSAN YAMMA) alongside Nigeria Police Force officers engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle.

Zero Casualties Reported

Overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the joint forces, the attackers abandoned their captives. They fled into the surrounding bushes, allowing security forces to safely recover all 33 victims.

The military confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded among the passengers or security personnel during the encounter.

Commitment to Safe Transit

Following the operation, the Theatre Commander reaffirmed the military’s determination to flush out criminal elements from the region. He pledged that troops will continue to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure maximum protection for commuters using major transport routes across the North West.
