Operation Fansan Yamma Troops Kill Terrorists, Seize 700+ Bullets in Garri
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully eliminated multiple terrorists and intercepted a massive cache of ammunition during separate, coordinated operations in Zamfara and Kaduna states.
The breakthroughs, achieved on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, highlight the military’s ongoing offensive to dismantle criminal networks and block the flow of illegal arms across the region.
According to an official statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, the operations were heavily driven by strategic intelligence and rapid tactical response.
In Zamfara State, troops attached to Sector 2 acted on high-level intelligence tracking the movement of terrorists migrating from the Fakai general area. The criminals were said to be heading toward Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole, spanning the Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas.
Military forces strategically laid an ambush at Kwanar Jolof, intercepting the terrorists. An armed confrontation ensued, resulting in the neutralisation of scores of terrorists, while others fled into the surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds.
Following the confrontation, heavy weaponry and operational gear were recovered, including: 1 Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher, 1 RPG bomb, 1 AK-47 rifle, 6 AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of live ammunition, and 1 operational motorcycle.
On the same day in Kaduna State, troops from Sector 1 intercepted a major ammunition smuggling attempt during a routine stop-and-search operation along the busy Saulawa–Zaria Road.
793 rounds of live ammunition were found hidden deep inside bags of garri. The vehicle and its driver were immediately taken into military custody.
Intensive investigations are ongoing to uncover the destination of the ammunition and trace the wider supply network.
