Tinubu’s Re-election: Governors Now Fully in Charge as APC Rejigs PCC, Appoints Soludo, Adeleke as State Campaign Coordinators
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 general election, appointing prominent non-party members as state coordinators.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, and the recently re-elected Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, have been officially added to the expanded council list released on Tuesday.
President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the restructured council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Governor Soludo has been named the campaign coordinator for Anambra State. His appointment follows a series of public disputes with his kinsman, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC).
Soludo has frequently challenged Obi’s legacy as a former governor of Anambra State, recently releasing documents questioning Obi’s financial prudence and management of state resources.
Obi remains a major political rival to President Tinubu in the South East and South South—regions Obi won decisively in 2023, with the exceptions of Akwa Ibom and Rivers State.
Also joining the campaign structure is Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has been appointed as the coordinator for Osun. Adeleke, who secured his re-election on August 15, 2026, has been open about his alignment with President Tinubu, reportedly citing regional solidarity as a key factor.
Following his electoral victory, Adeleke made the presidency his first point of call to consolidate goodwill and congratulations.
Osun State is viewed as a critical battleground for Tinubu’s influence in the South West. Having lost the state in 2023 to Atiku Abubakar (who is now the candidate of the ADC), the Tinubu campaign aims to leverage Adeleke’s local popularity to swing the state back in the APC’s favour for the upcoming election.
To ensure nothing is left to chance, the APC has made its governors take full charge of coordinating the President’s campaign in their respective states. The adjustment follows a resolution reached at a meeting of the Progressives Governors Forum held on September 14, 2026.
At the meeting, Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodimma, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), also announced that the APC will exclusively back its own candidates.
“The forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support, or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the reelection of Mr. President, weakening the APC, or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma stated.
The governors, who were not satisfied with the earlier campaign structure, had demanded a locally responsible system that will ensure they (the governors) command the frontlines of the President’s reelection bid in their home states.
“All levels of the party’s campaign architecture will be aligned to the reelection of Mr. President and the strategic objectives of the APC, while maintaining national coherence,” Uzodimma had clarified.
He had stated that the campaign will adapt dynamically to the peculiar political, social, and cultural realities of every state and region.
The recent adjustments to the structure of the campaign council are seen as a direct response to the position of the governors. “Hope Uzodimma, for instance, in addition to being secretary of the presidential campaign council, is also coordinator of the campaign in Imo State,” a source told KlickNews. “This is why likeminded governors like Soludo and Adeleke who are not members of the APC are also made state coordinators.”
The development seems to align with the “rainbow coalition” arrangement of FCT minister Nyesom Wike. Wike, a member of the PDP who has been working for President Tinubu, is to take charge of coordinating victory for the APC in the FCT. He had earlier assumed that role when he vowed to resign if the President failed to win in the FCT.
