Osun 2026: President Tinubu Congratulates Governor Adeleke on Election Victory
ABUJA, NIGERIA—President Bola Tinubu has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s election victory as a “fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish” in Nigeria.
The President’s remarks were contained in an official statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu confirmed he personally extended his goodwill to the Governor, who defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. “I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State,” the President stated. “His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.”
A Call for Unity and Governance
The President urged the Governor to focus on inclusive governance as he begins his second term. “I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years,” Tinubu said. “Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.”
Tinubu also commended the other contestants for displaying “courage and discipline,” noting that their participation enriched Nigeria’s democratic culture.
INEC, Security Agencies Praised for Peaceful Polls
President Tinubu assessed the election outcome as a true reflection of the people’s will. He praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for delivering a peaceful, transparent, and credible election.
Governor Adeleke was declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election after polling a total of 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who polled 444,811 votes.
Following the announcement, Governor Adeleke described his victory as a “no victor, no vanquished” outcome. He extended a hand of fellowship to his co-contestants, inviting them to join hands with his administration to develop the state.
