‘Release My Academic Records’—Peter Obi Tells UNN

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC), has declared that he has no objection to public scrutiny of his academic records.

Responding to reports of a lawsuit seeking the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of his 1984 Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Obi urged all educational institutions he attended to release his official documents to any legitimate requester.

Authorization of Record Release

Obi explicitly cleared UNN and all other academic institutions he attended, both within and outside Nigeria, to release his admission and academic records in accordance with the law. He emphasized that those seeking public office must have nothing to hide from the citizens they aspire to govern.

Call for Universal Scrutiny

While welcoming interest in his background, Obi stressed that public scrutiny must be fair, lawful, and applied consistently to all political aspirants. He urged fellow presidential candidates to willingly open up their own educational qualifications for verification, framing it as an opportunity to build institutional trust rather than a personal attack.

Reiterating his campaign philosophy, Obi maintained that a “New Nigeria” requires leaders who embody the values of transparency, integrity, and respect for institutions. He stated that earning the trust of the Nigerian electorate requires absolute openness from anyone seeking the nation’s highest office.
