Pantyhose Wearing South African Man Charged for Raping 16 Women
A South African man is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault and rape involving 16 women.
Described as a serial rapist, the suspect is said to have committed the offences between 2014 and 2025. Victims reported that the suspect masked himself with a pantyhose to conceal his identity and consistently wore pantyhose over his head to conceal his identity, but forensic investigators were able to identify him and link him to the 16 victims using DNA evidence.
The case has generated widespread attention, with the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Thami Ntuli, personally attending the court hearing at the Durban Magistrates Court.
According to South African media, the suspect has also been charged for attempted murder.

The arrest of the Durban suspect unfolds against a wider backdrop of what human rights organizations and the South African government classify as a rolling gender-based violence emergency.
The civil society organization Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust reports that between January and March 2026 alone, South Africa recorded 9,782 reported rape cases.
This statistical breakdown equates to roughly 108 reported rapes every day, or more than 4 rapes every single hour with over 95% of incidents going unreported.
