Osun 2026: Davido Demands Peace, Urges Voters to Defy Intimidation Ahead of August 15 Polls
OSOGBO, Nigeria— With political tensions mounting ahead of the highly anticipated August 15 Osun State governorship election, global Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has made a passionate plea to political actors and residents to maintain peace and protect the democratic process.
Davido, speaking in his official capacity as the Chairman of the Accord Party Youth Mobilisation Committee, addressed journalists at a press conference in Osogbo, the state capital. He firmly charged residents to come out en masse and vote for their preferred candidates without fear of harassment or intimidation.
A Call for Non-Violent Elections
The music icon emphasized that no political ambition or electoral victory justifies the destruction of properties or the loss of human lives. He issued a stern warning to political thugs and desperate politicians against instigating violence, ballot box snatching, or any form of electoral malpractice.
“No electoral contest is worth the life of any citizen,” Davido stated, urging the youth to resist being used as agents of destabilization during the upcoming ballot.
Appeal to APC Campaign Council Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodinma
In a strategic move to de-escalate rising political friction, Davido specifically called on the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, who serves as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the Osun State election.
Davido appealed to Governor Uzodinma to leverage his influential leadership position to guarantee a level playing field and ensure that absolute peace reigns before, during, and after the governorship poll.
As the August 15 election date draws near, civil society groups and security agencies have also intensified calls for a credible, free, and fair election in Osun State, echoing the singer’s stance that the constitutional rights of the electorate must be fiercely protected.
