Okun Unity Dialogue: Stakeholders Urge Synergy to Unlock Development and Tackle Security Challenges
The recently concluded Okun Unity Dialogue has called for immediate collective action and deeper cooperation among the people of Okun land, identifying unity as the definitive key to unlocking the region’s economic and developmental potential.
Organised by the Okun Development Initiative (ODI), the high-level dialogue brought together an influential mix of community leaders, professionals, youth advocates, and regional stakeholders to deliberate on critical bottlenecks stalling the progress of the Okun communities.
Overcoming Division for a Common Agenda
A central theme of the summit was the urgent need to dismantle existing internal divisions and forge a unified front. Speakers emphasized that building a shared strategic agenda is essential for driving long-term, sustainable development across all Okun territories.
Prince Olatunji Olusoji, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Grosvenor Group, noted that a fragmented approach would only stall progress.
“A united Okun people will be significantly better positioned to address pressing security challenges and attract meaningful, high-impact interventions in infrastructure, education, and other critical socioeconomic sectors,” Olusoji stated.
Security Experts Advocate Community-Led Intelligence
Addressing the rising wave of insecurity, safety experts at the dialogue called for a robust, multi-layered collaboration network. They urged traditional institutions, community leaders, and local residents to work in lockstep to secure the region.
Key recommendations from the security panel included enhanced intelligence sharing, proactive policing, and community-based security mobilisation that involves local surveillance and grassroots vigilante structures.
A Roadmap to Prosperity
The dialogue concluded on a highly optimistic note, with stakeholders expressing confidence that sustained engagement would pave the way for a more secure and prosperous Okun land.
The Okun Development Initiative urged all sons and daughters of the region—both at home and in the diaspora—to actively prioritize regional unity, describing it as the non-negotiable foundation for all future developmental blueprints.
