Niger State Mosque Attack: Terrorists Abduct Worshippers and Village Head in Borgu
Terrorists have abducted several worshippers—including a recently released village head and a 90-year-old man—during Friday prayers in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that a joint security team has launched a rescue operation.

Police Confirm Mosque Invasion
Niger State Police Command Spokesman, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun confirmed the assault in an official statement. According to the police, heavily armed terrorists invaded the communities on Friday, August 21, 2026. The attackers stormed the Kpenya mosque during afternoon prayers, creating panic as worshippers fled into the nearby forests.
While many escaped, an unconfirmed number of residents were taken hostage.
Security Response
A joint security detachment consisting of military and police personnel has been deployed to the area. The team is currently assessing the situation and combing the surrounding forests to track down the terrorists and rescue the victims safely.
