Minna Mining Probe: Deji Adeyanju Accepts Nomination, Vows to Expose Any Cover-up

ABUJA, NIGERIA—Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju Esq. has officially accepted his nomination to serve on the independent committee investigating the recent tragic deaths of gold miners in Minna, Niger State.

In a public statement released on Saturday, the activist confirmed his inclusion in the probe panel, stating that his primary objective is to safeguard the interests of the victims and ensure an uncompromised investigation.

A Call for National Sacrifice

Adeyanju urged the government to withhold any monetary provisions, stipends, or honorariums for the committee members, framing the assignment as a strict national duty.

“I urge the Government not to make any monetary provision, stipend, or honorarium for members of the committee, as this is a national duty for which we should be prepared to sacrifice,” Adeyanju stated.

Vowing to maintain absolute independence, the legal practitioner announced that he will personally fund his logistics throughout the assignment.

“I will not accept any such payment… I undertake to take care of my hotel, transportation, and other expenses myself,” he added.

Zero Tolerance for Cover-Ups

Adeyanju issued a stern warning against any attempts to manipulate the outcome of the investigation or shield guilty parties from accountability. He emphasized that he would not tolerate the “Nigerian factor”—a local euphemism for systemic corruption and institutional compromise—to derail the pursuit of justice.

“I will not participate in or tolerate any attempt to compromise the investigation or cover up wrongdoing,” Adeyanju warned. “If there is any attempt to shield those responsible or suppress the truth, I will expose it. The victims deserve justice.”

The constitution of the committee follows widespread public outcry demanding accountability for the deceased miners in Niger State. Adeyanju’s participation is expected to bring a high level of civil society oversight to the state-led inquiry.
