“Keep Using the ‘Two-Finger’ Logo For Now,” NDC Tells Supporters as It Rushes to Modify Controversial Logo

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has clarified the ongoing controversy surrounding its official logo, assuring candidates and members that a modified version is being finalized in consultation with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This development comes as political activities for the 2027 general elections officially commenced on Wednesday.

In a statement released by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party explained that it is working around the clock to resolve lingering administrative details before replacing the current emblem.

Keep Using the ‘Two-Finger’ Logo For Now

The NDC leadership has directed all election candidates and party faithful to continue using the existing logo—the iconic two-finger victory/peace salute—for all campaign materials.

The old logo remains valid until INEC officially approves and replaces it with the modified version.

Despite the administrative adjustments, Osa Director emphasized that the party is moving forward with its election timeline and is set to inaugurate its various campaign committees ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Legal Battle Behind the NDC Emblem

The decision to modify the logo stems from a series of intense legal battles that threatened the party’s official registration.

INEC had initially refused to register the NDC. In December 2025, a Federal High Court in Lokoja ruled that the two logos were distinct, ordering INEC to register the NDC. INEC complied in February 2026.

But in June 2026, the Peace Movement Party (PMP) emerged, claiming they had been seeking registration with the exact same two-finger logo since 2015. The Lokoja Federal High Court subsequently reversed itself due to a lack of a fair hearing for PMP, returning the registration dispute to square one.

The NDC has since appealed this reversal and filed for a stay of execution, choosing to modify the logo to ensure a smooth running of its 2027 political campaigns without further legal distractions
