EPL Wrap: Brighton Thrash Palace; Man United Stall at Leeds
Brighton and Hove Albion continued their scintillating form in the English Premier League with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace, while Manchester United turned in another underwhelming performance under Michael Carrick.
The Seagulls, who have suffered just one defeat in their last five outings, started with relentless high pressure. Their intensity paid off as early as the 4th minute when a Palace defensive error resulted in an own goal.
Brighton maintained their high tempo after the interval, adding two more goals in the second half through a strike from Kostoulas and a late 84th-minute finish by Jack Hinshelwood to wrap up the rout.
The dominant victory catapults Brighton to 3rd place in the Premier League table, sitting just behind Arsenal and league leaders Manchester City.
Arsenal Rescued by Madueke; Man United Held by Leeds
Elsewhere, Arsenal had to dig deep to secure all three points away at Nottingham Forest. The hosts sat deep for most of the match, frustrating the Gunners and forcing them to alter their tactics.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 80th minute when substitute Noni Madueke slotted home the decisive goal to seal a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Meanwhile, the historic rivalry between Leeds United and Manchester United ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Michael Carrick’s side looked on course for just their second win of the season after Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring in the 35th minute.
However, Leeds roared back in the second half, equalising through a brilliant effort from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The draw leaves Leeds 7th, while Manchester United remains stuck in 13th place.
In the weekend’s other action, Bournemouth comfortably defeated Sunderland 2-0. Game week 7 concludes on Monday night as Tottenham Hotspur take on Coventry City.
