Armed bandits have shot and killed Ahmed Yusuf, the Village Head of Galla in the Borgu Emirate of Niger State.

The deceased traditional ruler was the brother of Nigeria’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

The tragedy was officially confirmed in a statement released by Bologi Ibrahim, the chief press secretary to the Niger State Governor.

Reports indicate that the terrorists breached the traditional ruler’s residence and assassinated him directly inside his palace.

Local sources state the attack followed warnings the village head had previously given to the gunmen to stay away from infiltrating his community.

Governor Bago Orders Security Hunt

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago strongly condemned the assassination. He described the attack on a traditional institution as an intolerable display of audacity by criminal elements.

“The killing of the village head in his palace is a clear demonstration of boldness and a high level of insolence by these terrorists,” Governor Bago stated.

The Governor has issued directives to regional security agencies, tasking them to immediately track down, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators.

State Government Commiserates with Family

Governor Bago extended his condolences to Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the immediate family of the late traditional leader, the residents of Galla Village, and the entire Borgu Emirate. He urged the community to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived an honorable life and died while trying to defend his subjects.
