Alert Troops Foil Massive Zamfara Attack, Hunt Down Bandits to Rescue 9 Abducted Citizens

ZAMFARA, Nigeria — Troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully repelled a midnight terrorist infiltration targeting a military facility at Kasuwan Daji in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The gun battle, which occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2026, resulted in heavy casualties for the terrorists, the rescue of nine abducted residents, and the loss of two security personnel.

The Attack and Military Response

According to a statement by Lt. Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations (8 Division, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA), the terrorists attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to breach military installations in the area.

Alert troops instantly detected the hostile movement and engaged the attackers with overwhelming firepower. The decisive response forced the terrorists to abandon their mission and retreat in confusion.

Hostage Rescue Operations

Following the initial firefight, military reinforcements arrived at the scene. Troops launched a hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who had reportedly abducted an unspecified number of citizens from nearby communities during their retreat.

The swift, sustained operation by the troops led to the successful rescue of nine abducted locals.

Casualties and False Reports Cleared

The Nigerian Army confirmed that one Army officer and one police officer paid the supreme price during the encounter. Other security personnel who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving medical attention.

Lieutenant Colonel Osoba also addressed misinformation surrounding the encounter. He dismissed viral online reports claiming that six security personnel were killed, categorically labeling those reports as false.

Ongoing Security Crackdown

Military officials emphasize that this foiled infiltration represents another major setback for bandit and terrorist groups in the region. The victory comes amid intensified military operations and mounting pressure across the North-West theatre to restore lasting peace.
