UCL Wrap: Six-Goal Blasts for Liverpool and Aston Villa as PSG Stun Man City

It was a glorious night of UEFA Champions League football on Wednesday as both Aston Villa and Liverpool turned on the style, scoring six goals each in their respective encounters.

Aston Villa hosted Fenerbahce at Villa Park, putting on a commanding performance to cap off an unforgettable 6-0 European night for Unai Emery’s side.

Meanwhile, Liverpool firmly established themselves as serious contenders for this year’s Champions League title with a thumping 6-3 away victory against LASK. New signing Bradley Barcola took center stage, netting a brilliant hat-trick.

The clinical performance saw the Anfield side shake off a disappointing domestic league loss to Manchester City and remind their fans of their rich European legacy.

In contrast, it was a bruising night for fellow English giants Manchester City, who were beaten 4-2 by defending champions PSG at the Etihad Stadium. Former manager Pep Guardiola was spotted in the stands, watching on as his former team conceded three goals in a chaotic opening 20 minutes.

City emerged from the break re-energized and mounted a spirited fightback. Erling Haaland scored twice, hitting the back of the net in the 53rd and 75th minutes to give the home fans hope.

However, any dreams of a dramatic comeback were dashed when PSG were awarded a penalty following a Matheus Nunes foul on Nuno Mendes in the box. Though City escaped further damage when substitute Ferran Torres failed to convert the spot-kick, Luis Enrique’s men comfortably held on for the 4-2 win.

In the night’s other fixtures, Real Madrid edged out a thrilling 4-3 away win against Roma, while German giants Borussia Dortmund suffered a stunning 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bodo/Glimt. Real Betis also secured maximum points with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over FC Porto.

Elsewhere across Europe, Shakhtar Donetsk defeated AEK Athens 3-1, Slovan Bratislava slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against Stuttgart, and Feyenoord narrowly overcame tournament debutants Como in a 3-2 thriller.
