UCL Matchday: Como Stun Man United, Arsenal Hold Bayern, Madrid Cruise
Arsenal fought back to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, while Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of Italian debutants Como.
The high-profile clash in Munich felt like a sequel to last season’s intense matchups, but this time the European giants were forced to share the spoils. Arsenal struck first in the 25th minute, with Eberechi Eze finding the back of the net. The hosts responded just 10 minutes later when fullback Alphonso Davies levelled the scoring.
Bayern capitalised on momentum in the second half, taking the lead through a Harry Kane penalty. However, Arsenal’s £105m midfielder Declan Rice rescued a crucial away point, firing home an equalizer in the 82nd minute.
Carrick’s United Humiliated by Debutants’ Come
Manchester United’s turbulent season hit a new low as Italian side Como ran riot in a 4-1 thrashing. Michael Carrick’s men got off to a disastrous start, conceding a 2nd-minute penalty which Nico Paz calmly converted. Paz doubled his tally in the 57th minute before goals from Anastasios Douvikas and Ramon completed the rout.
Joshua Zirkzee managed a late stoppage-time consolation goal for United, doing little to soften the blow.
Real Madrid dominated RB Leipzig with a commanding 4-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu while Aston Villa extended their excellent European form, brushing past Viking 3-1.
In France, Galatasaray rebounded from their previous 4-1 defeat against Barcelona to beat Lille 4-2 away from home, and Club Brugge eased past another French side, Lens, with a dominant 3-0 home win.
Italian champions Inter Milan secured their first victory of the campaign, grinding out a 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
Elsewhere, Real Betis edged Feyenoord 1-0, while Sporting CP suffered a surprise 3-2 home defeat to LASK.
