‘Our Unsung Army’: NECO Registrar Hails Staff for Outrunning Terrorism and Kidnappings
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has maintained an unbroken streak of successful national examinations over the last few years, standing firm against the wave of terrorism, banditry, and civil unrest threatening Nigeria’s educational calendar.
Despite persistent security challenges across various regions—including the Boko Haram insurgency, rampant kidnapping, widespread banditry, and enforced sit-at-home orders in the Southeast—the examination body has successfully averted disruptions to its testing schedules.
NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, heavily credited this triumph to the council’s workforce, whom he proudly labeled the “army of NECO.” In a recent statement, Wushishi praised the round-the-clock alertness and unyielding commitment of the staff, noting that their resilience has been the cornerstone of the council’s operational continuity.
Reflecting on the heights of regional insecurity, Wushishi emphasized that no threat has been enough to paralyze their mandates. “Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and sit-at-home orders have never stopped NECO examinations,” the Registrar stated, highlighting the extraordinary courage demonstrated by the teams on the ground.
To sustain this high level of dedication and foster a culture of excellence, the examination body hosted its Productivity Awards.
According to Wushishi, the awards were established to motivate employees, boost service delivery, and encourage healthy professional competition.
