OSUN 2026: Against All Odds, Adeleke Defeats APC’s Oyebamiji to Win Re-Election

OSOGBO, NIGERIA — Governor Ademola Adeleke has won the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a second term in office after a fiercely contested battle at the polls.

Adeleke, flying the flag of the ACCORD party, won 19 out of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state. His closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), claimed victory in 11 council areas.

The Final Vote Tally

According to the official results breakdown, the top three candidates performed as follows:

  • Ademola Adeleke (ACCORD): 511,067 votes
  • Bola Oyebamiji (APC): 444,811 votes
  • ⁠Najeem Salaam (ADC): 14,989 votes (won 0 LGAs)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, made the formal declaration after the final collation of results at the INEC headquarters in Oshogbo.

Tension, Violence, and Voter Turnout

The election was held under high tension. Reports surfaced of voter intimidation, vote-buying, and scattered attempts to disrupt the process. Leading up to Saturday, threatening rhetoric and pre-election violence had raised fears of widespread voter apathy, but voters still turned out to decide the state’s leadership for the next four years.

Adeleke dominated his traditional strongholds, including Ede, Osogbo, and parts of Ife, securing wide margins.

The race was razor-thin in these council areas, but ultimately swung in Adeleke’s favour:

Boluwaduro: ACCORD – 7,118 | APC – 7,050

Ayedire: ACCORD – 11,073 | APC – 9,910 LGAs

Won by Bola Oyebamiji (APC)

Oyebamiji maintained control over the APC’s traditional bases and key influential zones, winning a total of 11 LGAs, including Olorunda, Irewole, and parts of Ife and Ilesa.

Boripe: APC – 19,963 | ACCORD – 12,448

Ilesa East: APC – 16,208 | ACCORD – 12,280

Obokun: APC – 16,120 | ACCORD – 12,023

Irepodun: APC – 15,713 | ACCORD – 14,504

Other LGAs won by APC: Atakumosa West, Atakumosa East, Ife South, and Isokan. Others are Olaoluwa, Olorunda, and Irewole.
