NECO Releases 2026 SSCE Results: 58.67% Secure 5 Credits in English and Math as Malpractice Plummets by 64%

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the official results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.

Announcing the outcome at the council’s headquarters on Thursday, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Wushishi, revealed that 804,948 candidates—representing 58.67% of those who sat for the test—secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

The 2026 results were compiled and made ready exactly 63 days after the conclusion of the nationwide exams, which also took place in six foreign countries: Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Saudi Arabia.

2026 vs. 2025 NECO SSCE Performance Blueprint

The overall performance metrics for the 2026 internal examination show a slight drop in the core subject pass rate alongside an overwhelming victory against examination misconduct.

Massive Drop in Exam Fraud

The standout success of the 2026 academic cycle is a sweeping 64.74% reduction in examination malpractice.

Incidents collapsed from 3,878 caught candidates in 2025 down to just 1,406 candidates this year. Professor Wushishi noted that NECO’s continued deployment of stringent anti-fraud mechanisms is yielding real results.

Core Subject Stability

While the percentage of students securing the baseline requirements for university admission (credits in Math and English) dipped from 60.26% to 58.67%, nearly 85% of all test-takers walked away with a minimum of five credits in other elective disciplines.
