Argentine super star Lionel Messi has announced his retirement from international football.
He posted the news on his Instagram page a few minutes ago.
He bows out as one of the greatest to play the game with 207 appearances, 125 goals, 11 hat tricks, and 46 assists.
His international trophy cabinet contains 1 FIFA World Cup won in 2022 in Qatar, 2 Copa América won in 2021 and 2024; 1 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions (Finalissima) in 2022, and 1 Olympic Gold medal in football in 2008. He has also won the World Youth Championship (U-20).
Messi retires as Argentina’s all-time top goalscorer at 125 goals, the most capped player, and the only player to win the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball twice in 2014 and 2022.
