Embattled Lawmaker Desmond Elliot Prostrates in Apology to Femi Gbajabiamila

A video has emerged on social media showing Desmond Elliot, the embattled lawmaker for Surulere State Constituency 1, prostrating and kneeling to apologize to the President’s Chief of Staff.

This dramatic move follows a longstanding political feud that culminated in Elliot losing his ticket to return to the Lagos State House of Assembly. Elliot was singled out by the president’s chief of staff for his controversial role during the 2025 Lagos State House of Assembly crisis.

In January 2025, an attempt was made to impeach the long-serving Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. Security intelligence reports allegedly linked Desmond Elliot to the plot, identifying him as a key figure scheming to orchestrate the impeachment.

Femi Gbajabiamila—a Surulere native who has long been viewed as the constituency’s political godfather and Elliot’s political mentor—later revealed that Elliot’s actions nearly cost him his own job. Gbajabiamila disclosed that the president directly questioned him over Elliot’s moves to undermine Obasa, a speaker who enjoys strong presidential goodwill.

As a result of this fractured relationship, Gbajabiamila and major Surulere APC stakeholders withdrew their backing for Elliot’s fourth-term ambition ahead of the May 2026 Lagos Assembly primaries. Instead, the party threw its weight behind Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who went on to soundly defeat Elliot in the primaries, securing 11,385 votes against Elliot’s 270 votes.

With his political future hitting rock bottom, Elliot recently met with Gbajabiamila and other key party chieftains to make amends. In a video shared online, the actor-turned-politician can be seen kneeling and prostrating on the floor, begging for forgiveness and pleading to be accepted back into the Lagos APC family.
