AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Super Eagles Humbled 3-0 by Guinea-Bissau
Nigeria’s Super Eagles were thoroughly humbled by Guinea-Bissau in their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game on Tuesday.
Coming off the back of a lackluster 2-1 comeback win against Madagascar in Uyo on Friday, September 25, the Eagles had the chance to establish a strong lead at the top of Group L.
Instead, they failed to convert possession into goals and faltered defensively.
Goals from Franculino Djú, Mama Baldè, and a deep stoppage-time strike by Álvaro Djaló completed a dominant performance by the ‘Wild Dogs’ of Guinea-Bissau.
The heavy defeat forces Nigeria down to second position in Group L with 3 points, while Guinea-Bissau moves to the summit of the group with 6 points. Tanzania and Madagascar sit lower in the standings with 1 point each after fighting out a 1-1 draw earlier in the day.
In other selected AFCON qualifying matches played on Tuesday, 2026 World Cup fan favorites Cape Verde were defeated 2-1 at home by Rwanda.
Mozambique cruised past Sudan 4-1, while coach Patrick Vieira’s Senegal earned a narrow 1-0 win against Ethiopia.
Elsewhere, Zambia beat Togo 2-0. Meanwhile, Burundi and Algeria played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, while Ghana suffered a major shock, losing 2-4 at home to The Gambia.
