President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s advancements in customs modernisation will serve as a critical catalyst for strengthening intra-African trade.

This follows the signing of a landmark 20-year concession agreement between the Trade Modernisation Project Limited and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Customs Modernisation Project.

Strategic Impact of the Agreement

According to a presidency release, the partnership solidifies Nigeria’s role as a primary driver of continental commerce and border security.

The Presidency highlighted three core benefits of the initiative to include enhanced logistics for easy movement of goods across regional borders, tightened security for African borders through advanced tracking and digital infrastructure, and revenue protection by minimizing trade leakages.

Driving Continental Integration

President Tinubu commended Trade Modernisation Project Limited for elevating the Nigerian Customs Service to a globally recognized standard of efficiency.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s absolute commitment to the AfCFTA framework, the President called on all continental stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of modern customs infrastructure to unlock Africa’s full economic potential.
