Peter Obi Applauds Adeleke’s Victory, Says People Power Always Makes the Difference

Nigeria — Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has hailed the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osun State, describing it as a triumph of popular will over political opposition.

In a strongly-worded statement issued on Sunday, Obi congratulated both the governor and the citizens of Osun State, emphasizing that the election outcome serves as a definitive blueprint for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 general elections.

A Mandate Renewed by Performance

Obi stated that the electorate spoke with “courage and clarity,” reinforcing the fundamental democratic principle that power ultimately belongs to the people.
He attributed Governor Adeleke’s victory to his track record, public compassion, and developmental milestones during his first term in office.

“Through his commitment to the people, compassion for their needs, and the strength of his work and achievements in office, Governor Adeleke has earned their renewed confidence,” Obi remarked.

Youth Vigilance Defeats “Forces of Darkness”

A central theme of Obi’s message was the pivotal role played by the youth in safeguarding the electoral process. He praised young voters in Osun for peacefully defending their mandate against manipulative political elements. “Their vigilance and determination demonstrate that when citizens stand firmly to protect their votes, the forces of good can overcome the forces of darkness,” Obi said.

He added that the ultimate lesson from Osun is that democracy thrives only when citizens remain alert and ensure that every genuine vote is counted and respected.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party chieftain issued a clarion call to all Nigerians to replicate the Osun model. He tied the necessity of political participation directly to the current economic and security challenges facing the country, calling for citizen action, active participation, and physical protection of votes.

He highlighted the economic challenges facing the country, stating that “hunger, deprivation, insecurity, and hardship hold the ultimate power to vote for systemic change.”

On electoral reforms, the NDC presidential candidate called on political actors yo view elections as contests of ideas, competence, and service rather than battles of violence; urging political leaders to prioritize national interest and the rule of law over partisan gains, maintaining his signature optimism that a “New Nigeria is POssible.”
