Osun Election: Police Release Senator Fadahunsi After Interrogation Over Alleged Death Threat
OSOGBO, NIGERIA — The Osun State Police Command has released Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, approximately two hours after he honored an invitation regarding an alleged inciting comment ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Senator Fadahunsi arrived at the police headquarters in Osogbo to answer questions regarding a controversial statement attributed to him. The comment allegedly directed supporters to target members of the Accord Party.
Journalists were strictly barred from the interrogation room, located in a separate building away from the Commissioner of Police’s office. The lawmaker spent nearly two hours under intense questioning by security personnel before being briefly moved to the Commissioner’s office and back to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Speaking to reporters immediately after his release, Senator Fadahunsi confirmed that he cleared the air regarding the controversial remarks during the interrogation.
Police Warn Against Inciting Violence Ahead of Osun Election
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that a full investigation into the alleged inciting comments remains ongoing.
Addressing the press at the command headquarters, Force Public Relations Officer Anietie Iniedu emphasized that law enforcement will take strict action against any political actors attempting to disrupt public peace. “The police will not tolerate any statement or action capable of disrupting the peace of Osun State before, during, or after the August 15 governorship election,” Iniedu warned.
