Osun 2026: Amnesty International Demands Arrest of Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Vote Violence Incitement
NIGERIA — Amnesty International has strongly condemned Senator Francis Fadahunsi (APC), representing Osun East, following a viral threat video.
In the footage, the lawmaker reportedly instructed his supporters to kill members of the opposition Accord Party.
The incident comes just days before the highly anticipated Osun State governorship election.
“Deliberate Attempt to Incite Bloodshed”
The global human rights watchdog described the senator’s utterances as reckless and intentional.
“Senator Fadahunsi’s remarks were deliberate and solely aimed at inciting a bloody poll,” the rights group stated. Amnesty International warned that such rhetoric poses an immediate danger to voters and electoral officials.
Call for Government and Party Action
The human rights organization reminded Nigerian authorities of their domestic and international obligations of prohibiting hatred that constitutes incitement to violence or discrimination.
The rights body is calling the authorities to publicly denounce all live and online statements promoting bloodshed.
The group also demanded immediate accountability and legal action against the APC lawmaker to counter election violence.
