Nigerian Air Force Crash: NSIB Offers Technical Assistance
ABUJA, Nigeria—The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has offered technical investigation assistance to the Nigerian Air Force over the TR-42 jet that crashed in Ondo State on Monday morning.
The aircraft was executing a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident happened.
While commiserating with the Air Force over the tragedy, the NSIB noted that investigative responsibility for such incidents rests solely with the Nigerian Air Force due to the military nature of the aircraft.
NSIB Director General Captain Alex Badeh Jr., however, states that the bureau stands ready to deploy immediate technical assistance upon a formal request.
The NSIB has offered specialized capabilities to aid the military’s investigation, including “deployment of trained safety investigators to the site.”
The Bureau also pledged to open its flight safety laboratory for the Air Force and stands ready to provide technical support for the recovery, readout, and analysis of the aircraft’s flight recorder data (black boxes).
The NSIB commended the swift activation of first responders and search teams in Igbokoda. Captain Badeh Jr. urged members of the public and the media to avoid speculation and rely exclusively on official updates released by the Nigerian Air Force regarding both the rescue operation and the subsequent investigation.
