Nigeria to Celebrate Another Public Holiday on Tuesday
Nigerian workers will enjoy a day at home on Tuesday, 25th August, in observance of the Eid-el-Maulud public holiday.
The declaration was made by the Federal Government in a notice issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Eid el-Maulud commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. While not all Muslims see it as a major holiday, it has historically been recognized by the Nigerian government as an official holiday.
The statement by the Minister, congratulates the Muslim Ummah both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, highlighting that the sacred period should be utilized for collective prayers dedicated to sustainable national peace.
Minister Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to observe the festivities with moderation, restraint, and mutual respect for one another, and support efforts at fostering and preserving national unity.
