Nigeria Launches E-Commerce Platform Offering Discounts for Military and Veterans
The Federal Government has officially launched the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) Personnel Online Discount Shop, a digital welfare platform designed to provide serving military personnel, veterans, and their families with discounted access to essential goods.
The initiative was formally unveiled on Thursday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Speaking at the launch, Senator Akume emphasized that a motivated and resilient military relies heavily on the assurance that their well-being is prioritized. He described the online store as a key addition to the government’s comprehensive welfare framework aimed at easing financial pressures and enhancing the quality of life for the nation’s defenders.
The e-commerce platform leverages digital technology through a strategic partnership between Defence Headquarters and the Zinox Group, utilizing the Konga platform to deliver goods directly to beneficiaries.
“This platform demonstrates how technology and strategic partnerships can be harnessed to deliver practical benefits to citizens who have dedicated themselves to the service and security of the nation,” Akume stated.
Public-Private Partnership Secured via MoU
The launch event also featured the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group. Senator Akume commended both entities, noting that the agreement establishes a sustainable framework for public-private cooperation in achieving national objectives.
He urged stakeholders and the Defence Headquarters to maintain transparency, reliability, and responsiveness in running the platform, stressing that its ultimate success will be measured by the quality of service it provides to the beneficiaries.
Honouring Veterans and the Renewed Hope Agenda
The SGF specifically lauded the inclusion of veterans and their families in the scheme, affirming that their past sacrifices deserve continuous recognition and support.
He further expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda before urging all eligible personnel and veterans to actively utilize the new platform.
