NDLEA Dismantles Nigerian-Mexican Meth Cartel in Enugu, Trial Set for October
ENUGU, Nigeria — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a high-tech Nigerian-Mexican drug cartel operating a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Enugu State.
This follows a months-long surveillance operation, which yielded the arrests of two primary kingpins who have been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Enugu.
The Suspects and the Mexican Connection
The two arrested kingpins have been identified as 45-year-old Chukwu Obumneme Christopher (alias “Brown”) and 60-year-old Chukwu Georginus Monday (alias “George”).
According to NDLEA investigations, the duo operated the clandestine lab in partnership with Rodriguez Villanueva, a notorious Mexican drug cartel member based in Mexico City.
The suspects face a five-count charge of conspiracy, organisation, management, and financing of a Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) and unlawful possession of precursor chemicals used in methamphetamine production.
Meanwhile, three other syndicate members, including their foreign collaborators now at large, have been named Rodriguez Villanueva, Uchenna (alias “Uche”), and Celestine Ikemefuna Iwuchukwu.
Inside the Enugu Meth Lab
The breakthrough followed an intensive tracking operation by the NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit (SOU). Between December 1 and December 4, 2025, operatives monitored Brown’s movements across Lagos, Enugu, and Anambra states. The surveillance trail led law enforcement to a compound in the Eziama community of Obeagu, located in the Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Inside the compound, operatives uncovered a commercial-scale methamphetamine laboratory. The facility utilized improvised reactors and distillation apparatus, mirroring similar cartel setups recently deactivated by the NDLEA in Ogun, Oyo, and Ebonyi states.
A raid on the primary location and a subsequent search of George’s family residence uncovered a massive haul of industrial manufacturing equipment and precursor chemicals, pointing to a high-potency, P2P-based manufacturing setup.
NDLEA Declares War on Transnational Cartels
Reacting to the successful bust, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the professionalism and tenacity of the SOU operatives.
Marwa issued a stern warning to international drug syndicates, declaring that Nigeria will not be used as a safe haven for transnational organized crime.
“Our intelligence-driven operations and international partnerships will continue to close every loophole exploited by drug barons, whether local or foreign,” Marwa stated. He added that the agency will sustain its aggressive enforcement strategy until fleeing members of the syndicate are brought to justice.
