Ex-Gov Rochas Okorocha in Trouble Over Alleged Election Document Forgery
ABUJA — Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha is in fresh trouble after he was arrested by police operatives in Abuja on Monday night following his alleged failure to honour multiple official invitations.
Sources close to the matter revealed that the police executed a bench warrant after the former Imo West Senator failed to appear for questioning on two separate occasions in September 2026.
The arrest is reportedly connected to an ongoing investigation into the alleged forgery of documents tied to the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election.
While official police statements have not explicitly detailed the charges, Okorocha has been locked in a fierce legal battle with his successor, Governor Hope Uzodimma, over the Imo West senatorial ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Okorocha maintains that he won the APC senatorial primary held on May 18, 2026. In an originating summons filed on August 13, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja (Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026), Okorocha claimed he secured 150,780 votes against Uzodimma’s 102,158 votes.
The lawsuit challenges the APC’s August 1, 2026, declaration of Uzodimma as the official candidate, joining both the ruling party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.
Among his arguments, Okorocha is asking the court to determine whether INEC is bound by the monitoring reports of its own officials, who allegedly verified his victory during the May 18 primary exercises.
Following his interrogation on Monday night, the former governor was released on bail Tuesday afternoon pending the conclusion of further police investigations.
