El-Rufai Breaks Silence on ‘Silent’ Friends, Rules Out Revenge Amid Political Adversity
Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has broken his silence regarding the apparent abandonment by close colleagues, friends, and family members during his recent political struggles.
In a deeply reflective personal statement released on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, El-Rufai declared that he harbors no regrets for standing by people in the past and has completely left the judgment of any perceived ingratitude or injustice to God.
‘Adversity Illuminates Relationships’
Addressing public concerns over the noticeable silence of individuals he historically risked his personal and political capital to support, El-Rufai noted that he never expected reciprocity.
“Throughout my life, I have tried to do what I could for my colleagues and friends, my family and humanity at large, guided by my Islamic faith, my Arewa upbringing, my personal values, and, above all, my conscience,” El-Rufai stated.
He acknowledged that while some allies have chosen to remain silent or even rewrite history during his reversed circumstances, he refuses to judge them. However, he hinted at a quiet realignment of his inner circle moving forward.
“Adversity has a way of illuminating relationships,” he said. “What I learn in difficult times like the past few months may lead me, quietly and without regret, to reconsider the nature of certain relationships.”
No Room for Revenge
Despite the political undertones of betrayal, the former governor firmly ruled out seeking retribution against those who have turned their backs on him. Instead, he emphasized his commitment to his core principles over the fluid loyalty of associates.
“As for any injustice, ingratitude, or injury done to me, I seek neither revenge nor retribution. Ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah, and I leave that judgment to Him, in this world and in the Hereafter,” El-Rufai affirmed.
The embattled former FCT Minister stressed that his primary focus is maintaining a clean conscience and staying true to his faith, leaving his ultimate legacy to the verdict of posterity.
