ADC Unveils ‘The Orange Book’: Opposition Party Introduces Strict Code of Conduct for 2027 Public Office Holders

With less than seven months to the 2027 general election, the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled a comprehensive set of governance principles and ethical guidelines to regulate all public office holders elected on its platform.

The strict new guidelines are contained in a landmark policy document titled The Orange Book. The initiative represents a strategic effort by the ADC to establish clear standards of accountability, discipline, and responsible leadership for its elected representatives ahead of the upcoming polls.

A Response to Decades of Corruption and Weak Institutions

The introduction of the code of conduct was formalized in a joint statement issued by the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and the National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola. The party leadership explicitly stated that adopting the document is a direct response to decades of systemic corruption, weakened public institutions, and the severe erosion of public trust caused by errant government officials.

According to the leadership, the core principles of The Orange Book will ensure that all successful candidates on the ADC platform conduct themselves strictly in accordance with the core values of public service.

The party emphasized that its elected officials are now mandated to pioneer a refreshing approach to governance—one anchored deeply on self-sacrifice, personal integrity, and ethical leadership.

Providing an Alternative Approach to Governance

Speaking during an earlier press briefing with journalists in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, reiterated the party’s long-term vision. He noted that the ADC is actively seeking to provide a viable alternative to the current political status quo, placing a heavy premium on institutional discipline among representatives.

The formulation of this new code was heavily informed by growing public dissatisfaction with unfulfilled political promises across Nigeria. By enforcing The Orange Book, the ADC aims to ensure that its public office holders remain directly accountable to the electorate while reinforcing the party’s institutional commitment to transparent governance.
